Meet Lorrie Herman, Our Newest Showcase Artist
We’re thrilled to announce Lorrie Herman as our newest Showcase Artist here at Broadway Gallery! You may have seen her work during her spotlight show, Capturing Light, which ran in the galleries from July through August. All the pieces featured in the show were watercolor, but Herman also works in oils. She paints in both mediums regularly, with oils being her go-to for plein air work while she teaches classes and workshops in watercolor.

Herman got her formal education in design and art history at University of Maryland, College Park but she first began making art in early childhood. Though she has been creating all her life, she has never grown tired of it and continues to push herself and her artworks by furthering her education through classes and workshops.
A local Virginia artist, Lorrie draws inspiration from the natural beauty around her. She fell in love with plein air, the art of painting outside on location, many years ago. “I love the challenge of painting outdoors, capturing the light and shadows,” Herman says about plein air. The process allows for her to both relax and create her art. She particularly finds inspiration in nature’s small details, from the intricate patterns of a plant to the ever evolving play of light.

I asked Lorrie to name one thing she loves about being an artist. Her answer: the creative process. From finding “a spark of an idea and seeing how it evolves,” to understanding color and building up compositional skills, Herman seeks to figure out the puzzle and continue to push herself. We look forward to continuing to show Lorrie’s pieces in the galleries. Drop by to see her works in person!
