Amy Lamb

I love nature. I am both a scientist (Cellular biology) and an artist (photography) and photograph virtually every variety of plant life that I can grow. I approach my photography with the curiosity that I gained as a scientist coupled with the desire to aesthetically reveal the colors and forms of nature. Capturing the beauty of plants, much like a portrait artist, is my primary goal. While sometimes mirroring the appearance of 17th – 19th century still life paintings, most often my photographs celebrate nature’s bold colors and dynamic forms. To better understand my subjects, I have become an avid gardener. My garden (both indoor and outdoor) is like my laboratory, with a wide variety of plants. From the first buds in Spring, to the blooms of Summer, and, ultimately, to the seeds of Autumn, I study the life cycle of plants. I seek to create photographs that show the magnificent botanical diversity of floral structures and forms that evolved to enable plants to survive and reproduce on our planet.
