About the Artist
Kathy Cornwell’s creative process inspired the theme of the evening. An artist based in Fairfax Station, she explores discovery, intuition, shape, and visual surprise in her artwork. Through layered collage and printmaking, she builds compositions that invite slow looking and reveal hidden details, inspired by her love of visual “surprises” like advent calendars and lockets. Shape anchors her process, creating a dialogue between order and play.
She has exhibited in juried and curated shows across the U.S. and online. Recent highlights include presenting 12 works at the NIH Clinical Center and participating in the Women Artists of the DMV exhibition. She is a two-time Women United Art Prize finalist (2023 Printmaking; 2024 Collage) and third place recipient in 2025 (Collage).
Cornwell’s work has appeared in numerous art magazines, including New Visionary Magazine, Suboart Magazine, Contemporary Collage Magazine, Women United Art Magazine, and others.
